He Who Made them at the Beginning

Understanding marriage from the point of view of Jesus or viewing marriage the way and manner Jesus views it will help us greatly in doing marriage God’s way. Matthew 19:3-10 is one of the portions in the Bible where we read that Jesus spoke directly on the issue of marriage, so to say that those words spoken, were the direct words from God.

Verse 4-6 reads, “And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning, made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?’ So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.'” Matthew 19:4-6 NKJV

The first thing I am learning in the above two verses is found in the first line and it says, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning”, so from the onset, your marriage was made by God from the beginning. What you thought and assumed was your decision was actually the making of God at the beginning. The knowledge of this truth will help you a great deal in moving forward with everything that concerns your marriage.

We need to understand that whatever God makes is always very good. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that the thought of God towards us is always of peace and not of evil to give us a future and a hope. Your marriage at the beginning was part of God peaceful thought towards you. It is part of the beautiful and hopeful future that God has in mind for you. The management of this hopeful marital thought of God towards you packaged in the marriage He designed for you at the beginning is your responsibility.

One thing to keep in mind is that though your marriage was made by God at the beginning and it was made peaceful to give you a future and a hope because your marriage is part of God’s thoughts towards you, yet the devil will contend with that thought of God towards you and will challenge the peace of your marriage because the Bible tells us that he (the devil) comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but the power to overcome him is readily available with the One who made your marriage at the beginning. The Bible says our weapon of warfare is not carnal but mighty through God.

You should never attempt to do marriage and expect to succeed at it without taking continuous guidance from God who made marriage at the beginning. First, He made it at the beginning so He has the manual on how to make it work in His hands, and second He has the power to overcome the evil infiltrator of the peace of your marriage. A successful marriage is not done without the leading of the Holy Spirit. The more you let the Spirit of God lead you in all that you do in marriage the more successful wife or husband you become and the more of a peaceful and beautiful marital experience you enjoy.
